PSA: T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 710 hits stores, $50 on contract

It's been a pretty busy week for Nokia. We now know that AT&T will be getting its own slice of the Lumia pie, and now its T-Mobile branded Lumia 710 has finally touched down on US soil. The middleweight Windows Phone is priced up at fifty bucks (after a mail-in rebate of the same amount) on a typical two-year contract, which should explain any queues forming outside your nearest T-Mob outlet. Or not.

Warpia ConnectHD hands-on

Warpia is showing off its latest wireless streamer on the CES showfloor with the ConnectHD, mating your HDTV with your computer for all of your wireless video needs. We had a chance to see for ourselves how Skyping from your couch feels. The ConnectHD features a 720p wide-angle wireless HD camera for video calls made directly with your HDTV, via apps like the aforementioned Skype. However, the main sell from Warpia is the wireless streaming of content from your computer to your HDTV through mirroring your computer desktop or by extending your desktop onto your HDTV. The Warpia ConnectHD through the use of the camera allows you to play PC Webcam games, because those are incredibly popular.

Though not a new concept, the ConnectHD allows this to happen in 1080p full HD without the need for annoying cables and wires. The included wireless USB PC and TV adapters make things pretty easy -- sort of a plug and play on both ends (though computer drivers are needed). The streaming itself is pretty clear cut HD quality, and the noticeable lag has been kept to a minimum. We're not sure you'd want to play intense PC games with this setup; however, for the average internet-surfer, Flickr-sharer, YouTuber and / or Facebook-stalker -- all of whom love to project their content onto their HDTVs -- this will do just fine. PARP1 Polymorphisms Increase the Risk of Gastric Cancer in a Chinese Population.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Poly(adenosine diphosphate [ADP]-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1), a protein involved in the DNA repair mechanism, plays an important role in carcinogenesis. In this study, we investigated whether single nucleotide polymorphisms of PARP1 contribute to gastric cancer (GC) and its precursor lesions (gastric precancerous lesions; GPL) in a case-control study conducted in the Hexi area of China, a high-risk area for GC. Methods: PARP1 162C>G (Phe54Leu) and 2819A>G (Lys940Arg) polymorphisms were genotyped by real-time PCR using a TaqMan assay in 140 GC cases, 110 GPL cases, and 120 controls. Data were statistically analyzed using the chi-squared test and a logistic regression model. Results: The presence of the PARP1 2819G allele was associated with an increased risk of GC (odds ratio [OR] 2.354; 95% CI 1.140, 4.861; p?=?0.018), especially for cardia GC and diffuse-type GC (ORs 2.988 and 3.784, respectively). We also observed an interaction between Helicobacter pylori infection, GC family history, and the presence of the PARP1 2819G allele. In contrast, the PARP1 162C>G polymorphism was not significantly associated with GPL or GC. Conclusion: The study suggests that the PARP1 2819G allele is associated with an increased risk of GC. In addition, H. pylori-positive status and family history jointly contribute to a higher risk of GC.

HTC Titan 2 coming to AT&T, finally delivers LTE to Mango lovers

The HTC Radiant has gone official, except it's now called the Titan II, and it does in fact come packing Mango and LTE. Around back is a 16-megapixel camera capable of capturing 720p video and a 1.3-megapixel shooter up front for video chats. We can tell that it's packing the dual-flashes from the leak but, ~~we're not sure about not much else -- including processor, pricing or availability.~~ So, there it is folks -- LTE on a Windows phone, and it's appears to be quite a beast of a device.

Update: Official PR has finally hit the wires and we now know it's packing a 1.5GHz Snapdragon (single-core, of course) and a 1,730mAh battery pack. The latter necessary to keep that huge 4.7-inch display and power-sucking 4G radio humming as long as possible. One more photo after the break.
