Mills College is recruiting for a Payroll Specialist.

Representative Duties

The role of the Payroll Specialist will be to help support both the Employee Services Department in addition to individual employees. The primary focus of this position is Payroll Administration, including but not limited to processing of semi-monthly payrolls for staff/faculty and students. Data-entry, auditing payroll data to ensure accuracy, processing employee records, tax garnishments and withholdings, recordkeeping, customer service, assists employees with payroll questions, answering front-line inquiries and resolving discrepancies.

The Payroll Specialist primary responsibilities include:

  • Process four payrolls/month
  • Track time reporting, vacation, sick leave and payroll integration for SDI/PFL
  • Pay and Reconcile Retirement and Health Insurance Accounts as needed
  • Prepare tax liability reports
  • Reconcile payroll tax accounts with general ledger
  • First point of contact for employees regarding payroll related inquiries
  • Process medical leave and workers compensation pay integrations
  • Maintain security of confidential personal employee information
Minimum Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Three years of work experience in Accounting, Payroll, or Human Resources
  • Two years of experience utilizing in-house payroll systems
  • Extreme accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience with a complex payroll (university, hospital, or multiple union organization)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service orientation for all levels of College constituencies and members of the public
  • Take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience processing complete payroll on an enterprise platform such as PeopleSoft, Banner, or Datatel
  • Knowledge of tax depositing procedures
  • Knowledge of general accounting methods and procedures
SALARY: Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/ltd insurance/403b retirement plan, 10 vacation days the first year plus a minimum of 13 paid holidays and 12 sick days annually. Staff also receives free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period.
