The electronic services librarian is a tenure-track faculty position, responsible for coordinating and enhancing the library?s electronic resources and services. The librarian participates in O?Grady library?s information literacy program, providing library instruction and reference assistance in individual, classroom, and online settings. As a liaison to specific academic departments, the librarian coordinates collection development in those disciplines and provides research instruction for students. As a faculty member, the librarian is committed not only to effectiveness in carrying out his or her duties as a librarian, but also to continued professional growth and service to the University and the profession.

Responsibilities and essential functions

Electronic services and resources?
? Provides leadership, strategic vision, and effective management of the library?s web presence, enhancing the discoverability and access to information resources, improving usability, strengthening library support of distance programs, and supporting marketing efforts of services. Works collaboratively with library faculty and staff, the university web office, and ITS to create coherent, consistent, and accessible web services.?? Coordinates the selection, acquisition, implementation, administration, and support of electronic resources, working with consortia, vendors, library staff, and faculty. Negotiates and manages licenses, promotes use, analyzes usage data, and ensures effective discovery and access.?? Manages the library?s web site and administers a variety of library technologies, currently including WorldCat Local and its Knowledgebase, LibGuides, electronic reserves, QuestionPoint virtual reference, ILLiad, EZProxy, and the access and discovery functions of the ILS.?? Monitors emerging technologies and practices in the field, recommending new services to adopt and coordinating their implementation.?? Develops and maintains written policies, procedures, and support documentation related to electronic resources, web services, and library technologies.?? Supervises the Library technology coordinator and provides leadership for technology support and training in the library.

Instruction, reference, and collection development?
? Participates in the library?s information literacy program, which includes teaching both course-integrated sessions and individualized research consultations, in face-to-face and online settings. The librarian will be a liaison to specific departments, with primary responsibility for instruction in those areas, but may also be asked to participate in instruction in general education or courses in other departments as needed.?? Participates in the library?s liaison program, fostering a collaborative relationship between the library and faculty in assigned academic departments, as well as overseeing collection development in those areas. This includes selecting materials, reviewing faculty requests, placing orders, and following local policies and procedures when carrying out this function.?? Provides traditional and electronic reference services to students, faculty, and other patrons through scheduled reference hours and by appointment.?? Creates instructional materials, such as subject pathfinders, class research guides, and online tutorials for assigned subject areas.

Professional growth and scholarly activities?
? Keeps current on trends and developments in electronic services and librarianship by reading professional literature, participating in professional organizations and committees, attending workshops, seminars, and conferences at the local, regional, consortial, or national level.?? Shares information and research with library and university faculty and staff and uses this knowledge to improve library services.?? Actively contributes to the scholarship of the field, conducting research for publications or presentations in areas of library and information science.

Service?
? As a member of the Saint Martin?s faculty, participates actively in university governance and planning by serving on standing committees, working groups, search committees, and other teams as appropriate. Takes part in full-faculty meetings, convocation, commencement and other activities expected of faculty.?? Actively participates in library planning and projects, attending library faculty and staff meetings. Serves on library working groups, search committees, and other teams as appropriate.?? Works with colleagues at Orbis Cascade Alliance libraries and other consortia on collaborative projects and initiatives.

Minimum qualifications:?
? Master?s degree in library science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.?? Experience in web development and/or with electronic resource licensing and management.?? Aptitude and passion for teaching and reference within a diverse educational setting.?? Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all library departments and university offices.?? Successfully pass a criminal background check.

Preferred qualifications:
?? Second Master?s degree in a discipline relevant to the university.?? Experience providing instruction and reference in an academic library.?? Experience coordinating the implementation of new technologies to enhance library or other instructional services.?? Supervisory experience.
